Osteopathic Medicine is a general form of medical
care that is valuable for everybody in sickness as well as in
health. It is a primary health-care profession, so you do not
need to be referred by your doctor. An osteopath is trained to
diagnose your problem and will refer you on to another health-care
practitioner if it becomes necessary. Osteopaths recognise the
importance of the link between the structure of the human body
and its function, by focussing on the skeleton and joints along
with the underlying muscles, soft tissues, nerves and internal
organs.
Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing,
developed mainly in China thousands of years ago but still evolving
today, thanks to formal western medical research. It is used to
restore and maintain health and well-being through the insertion
of very fine needles at specific points just under the skin. These
stimulate, disperse, and balance the flow of energy, relieve pain,
and are useful in treating a variety of chronic, acute, and degenerative
conditions.
