After a previous life as an Army Officer followed by a successful
spell in the Venture Capital market in Edinburgh, I retrained
medically as an osteopath. I am also qualified and experienced
in several branches of acupuncture, naturopathic medicine, cranio-sacral
therapy, general counselling and in the use of specialist equipment
such as laser, traction and ultrasound. I have set up and lectured
on military courses in Basic and also Advanced Trauma Life Support
at one end of the medical spectrum and also sat for several years
on the General Council of Naturoaths at the other end.
I feel that a common thread runs through all three careers and
that each has left me well grounded for the next. All involve
a structured evaluation of unique factors (often under great pressure)
and then an individual assessment of the overall situation, which
depends on the people involved as well as other unique influences.
This leads to the generation and implementation of an original
plan. Together with the technical ability, a broad-based experience
in these skills provides a solid framework from which to generate
most benefit from a patient’s visit.
I work closely alongside other specialists both within and outside
the clinic. This means that I can usually arrange something to
help everybody, regardless of his or her situation whether it
can be resolved in-house or not.
